Julian Foye - Company HistoryJulian Foye is a family furnishing business, started in the town of Fowey in 1862. In the early twentieth century, the business included furniture making, house painting and funerals. New furniture, which arrived on the railway, packaged in straw and hessian, was wheeled to the shop on a hand cart. The hessian was re-used in upholstery and the straw made into seamens mattresses, known as "donkeys breakfasts".
It is a very different business today which is run by Mike Ellis, his two daughters and an enthusiastic, dedicated staff. It was at Mike's insistence that the Bodmin shop was acquired in 1964, to reinforce the existing branches at Fowey and St. Austell. The new shop was an immediate success and paved the way for an expanding business, with the Wadebridge showroom opening in 1982.Visit our website by clicking here.
Each shop has a different selection. Some examples of the branch specialities are:
Tudor and Country style Oak furniture at Bodmin;
Regency style and Danish modern cabinet furniture at Truro;
Dunlopillo beds at Wadebridge.
The St. Austell branch, called Focus Showrooms, has a number of "focus" areas:Leather lounge suites - normally twenty to twenty-five on show;
Ducal Furniture - the largest display in Devon or Cornwall;
Flexible ideas in teenage study bedroom furniture;
Tall wardrobes and matching bedroom furniture with a built-in look.
The range at all shops includes lounge suites, beds, carpets and curtains. Talking through your own ideas with an experienced sales person will often produce suggestions to help you create your ideal scheme. Julian Foye employ three of the five Master Carpet fitters currently working in the County.
